MetOcean Telematics to supply the Royal New Zealand Navy with Next Generation Naval Gunfire Support System
Dartmouth, NS Canada (December 4, 2018) MetOcean Telematics’ New Zealand based partner, Air Affairs Ltd. (NZ) has been awarded the contract to supply the Royal New Zealand Navy with the next generation Mobile Acoustic Scoring System (MASS). Providing the Navy with the capability to independently access and practice naval gunfire support anywhere ocean wide.
MASS is a free-floating, acoustic buoy system that MetOcean Telematics developed to enable warships to undertake self-conducted naval gunfire support (NGS) training exercises ocean-wide. The free-floating buoy system consists of a set of operation buoys, which report acoustic event data, buoy position, and precise time. The acoustic event data is sent to a base station receiver, which is typically located on the ship from which the shells were fired. The entire system is very portable, can be easily handled by two personnel, and replaces traditional land-based live fire bombardment ranges.
